The Eunuch's Ethiopia — Acts 8.27

The eunuch's home was not located in modern “Ethiopia,” but in

“the ancient kingdom of Cush, lying south of Egypt, the capital of which was Meroe” (Jackson, Acts, 96),

corresponding more to modern Sudan.

“The territory would better be designated as Nubia, the region south of the First Cataract of the Nile” (Baker's, 41).

Here, the eunuch served as treasurer for the queen, or “Candace” — an official term, not a personal name.
